Holy Day CelebrationsWe celebrate many Holy Days at Live Oak. These pictures must be specific to one of the Holy Days. Please give as much information as you can, always respecting the people in the photos.
Celebrated on the 2nd of February. At Imbolc we mark the halfway point between winter and spring. Imbolc is a fire festival, and at this time of waxing light we call upon our own inner fire and work for inspiration, healing, and illumination. This Sabbat has several other popular names, including Candlemas and Brigid's Day.
Celebrated on Spring Equinox, March 20th. The Vernal Equinox is the beginning of the spring season. This festival's familiar symbols of rabbits, pastel-colored eggs, and bright spring flowers are sweet and romantic. Look around you: everywhere in nature there are signs of life returning to the land. Also known as Eostre or Easter.
Celebrated on May 1st, May Day. Beltane: thoughts of love, frolicking, marriage and we can't forget the May Pole dancing. However, Beltane is also the Holy Day to plant your garden and give your garden blessings of luxuriant growth, gorgeous blooms, healthy foliage, and yummy food. Gardeners often use the full month of May for this.
Celebrated on Summer Solstice, June 21st. On the day of the Summer Solstice, slip outside to quietly watch the Sun rise. Today is the day of the Lord, the day he is strongest. It is also the day to ask the Lord for his blessings, but be careful that they are unselfish wishes. At Church this is our traditional day to enjoy a corn roast and the gathering of friends.
Celebrated on the 1st of August. Lughnasadh, Lammas, or Loaf Mass is the first of three harvest festivals, the beginning of the harvest season. As the earliest grains, fruits, and vegetables from the garden and summer berries are ready to be harvested, now is the time to incorporate these fresh items into your recipes and your life. It is a day of thankfulness.
Celebrated on the Fall Equinox, September 23rd. As the season of autumn begins, we celebrate the second harvest festival and our Thanksgiving. This is a day to bring balance into your life and to be thankful for all the bounty you've received. This is also the traditional day to hunt for a willow wand, or a mullein staff.
Celebrated on October 31st. Yep, this is also Halloween. To us it is the last harvest, but more important is remembering our ancestors that have passed on before us. At our last harvest feast we set a place for those who are no longer with us. Oh, and don't forget - Trick or Treat.
Celebrated on the Winter Solstice, December 21st. Christmas, Santa, sharing, gifts, family and love. It's all tied up into this Holy Day. It is the birth of the Sun. Many religious traditions celebrate this Holy Day as well. There is no better way to celebrate the beginning of winter - than with a birth.
